چکیده
Introduction ctive management of the third stage of labour (AMTSL) is a critical intervention for PPH prevention. AMTSL has become a central component for the PPH reduction strategies of governments around the world. In 2012, WHO has issued new recommendations regarding AMTSL, which can be used to strengthen and focus the implementation of this lifesaving intervention. The use of uterotonics for the prevention of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) during the third stage of labour is recommended for all births. Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is the single most important cause of maternal mortality worldwide. It is the leading cause of maternal deaths accounting for nearly onequarter of all maternal deaths. The global prevalence of PPH is approximately 6% of all

A randomised trial of carbetocin versus syntometrine in the management of the third stage of labour
OBJECTIVE Syntometrine is an effective uterotonic agent used in preventing primary postpartum haemorrhage but has adverse effects including nausea, vomiting, hypertension and coronary artery spasm. Carbetocin is a newly developed long-acting oxytocin analogue that might be used as an uterotonic agent. We compare the efficacy and safety of intramuscular (IM) carbetocin with IM syntometrine in pr...
متن کاملEfficacy and safety of carbetocin applied as an intravenous bolus compared to as a short-infusion for caesarean section: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
BACKGROUND The two most commonly used uterotonic drugs in caesarean section are oxytocin and carbetocin, a synthetic oxytocin analogue. Carbetocin has a longer half-life when compared to oxytocin, resulting in a reduced use of additional uterotonics. Oxytocin is known to cause fewer cardiovascular side effects when administered as a short-infusion compared to as an intravenous bolus. Based on t...

Background and aim: The third stage of labour is one of the most troublesome stages of child delivery. The basic principle of the third stage management is administrating prophylactic uterotonics. However, the time of its administration varies in different hospitals. This study aimed to determine the effect of intramuscular oxytocin injection after emergence of the fetal anterior shoulder or pl...
